I left before the morning came, dead roads twisting through the haze. Black stone rising from the ground, silent voices all around. Every mile erased the light, something followed out of sight. I kept moving, never turned, while the distant skyline blurred. No shelter. No sign. Something waits beyond the line. Badlands, where the lost roads end, where forgotten things descend. Badlands, under hollow skies, tear away the old disguise. No way back, no guiding hand, only me and the Badlands. Dead lights flicker on the plain, then disappear beyond the rain. Footsteps answer every sound, something moves beneath the ground. Through the stone a whisper grows: There are things you shouldn’t know. One more mile, one more line, something waits outside of time. No mercy. No dawn. Still the distant call goes on. Badlands, where the lost roads end, where forgotten things descend. Badlands, under hollow skies, tear away the old disguise. No way back, no guiding hand, only me and the Badlands. NO ROAD! NO DAWN! NO WAY HOME! CROSS THE LINE! PAY THE PRICE! BADLANDS! I thought distance set me free, but the road remembered me. Then beneath my fading tracks, I saw footprints leading back. Closer now with every sound, someone walking without ground. Badlands, past the final light, past the borders of the night. Badlands, now I understand, I was summoned to this land. No way back, no guiding hand, I belong to the Badlands. I thought I came here alone... Then the footsteps stopped. So did mine.
“Badlands” is a dark journey about trying to escape the past, only to discover that some things cannot be left behind.
